How to Make Crunchy Fried Cauliflower with Breadcrumbs
Make crispy fried cauliflower with a golden breadcrumb coating. A simple vegetarian side or snack.
What You'll Need
- 1 medium head cauliflower (about 2 lbs / 900g)
- 1 cup (240ml) all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 ½ cups (100g) plain breadcrumbs (Panko for extra crunch)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- Vegetable oil for frying (about 3 inches deep in pot)
- Large pot or Dutch oven
- Three shallow bowls
- Slotted spoon or spider
- Wire rack with paper towels underneath
- Sharp knife and cutting board
This recipe yields crunchy fried cauliflower florets with a seasoned breadcrumb coating. Use Panko for extra crunch.
Prepare the Cauliflower
Wash the cauliflower, remove outer leaves, and cut into bite-sized florets (1–2 inches). Pat dry completely with a clean towel.
Set Up Breading Station
In bowl 1, mix flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Bowl 2: beaten eggs. Bowl 3: breadcrumbs.
Coat the Florets
Dredge each floret in flour, shake off excess. Dip in egg, let excess drip. Press into breadcrumbs to coat evenly. Place on a plate.
Fry Until Golden
Heat oil in a large pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry in batches without crowding, 3–4 minutes per batch, until golden brown and crispy. Drain on wire rack.
Crunch Tip
Ensure florets are completely dry before breading. Use Panko for extra crunch. Do not overcrowd the pot.
Hot Oil Safety
Use a thermometer to maintain oil temperature. Keep children away from the pot. Do not leave hot oil unattended.
