How to make a jumping puppet from cardboard and string

This guide will show you how to make a jumping puppet, also known as a Jumping Jack. It is hung on a door knob or nail on the wall and when the bottom string is pulled its arms and legs move up and down.

Difficulty level: Beginners

Instructions:

Materials:
Cardboard
String
4 paper fasteners
Pen
Scissors
Small bottle cap
Markers or crayons to decorate the puppet

Draw a circle around the small bottle cap on the cardboard.

Draw the torso as shown in the picture.

It should be about 3 bottle caps long and 2 bottle caps wide

Draw the legs the length of the torso with the head.

Draw the arms the length of the shoulders to the bottom of the torso.

Cut out the parts.

Make 4 dots as shown on opposite corners of the legs and arms.

Mark the circles shown in red in the picture.

Push a pen point through all the dots and circles.

Insert the point of a scissor to enlarge the holes for the fasteners. Do this only where the circles, shown in red in step 7 are.

Result

Put paper fasteners through the torso and then the arms.

knot a string loosely at each dot.

Put paper fasteners from the torso through the legs.

Knot a long string at the center of the arm string
and knot it again at the center of the leg string.

Knot a string on top of the head with a loop big enough for a doorknob.
Flip the puppet over to the other side.

It is ready for you to draw a smile and to be decorated.

Put the loop at the top of the head on a doorknob or nail, pull the string between the legs and watch your
puppet do jumping jacks!
