How to Make a Pyramid Napkin Fold
Fold a square napkin into a standing pyramid shape for table settings.
What You'll Need
- 1 square napkin (cotton or linen, 18–20 inches)
Use a square napkin to create a classic pyramid fold that stands upright on the table.
Step 1: Start Flat
Lay the napkin flat on a clean, smooth surface. Iron it if wrinkled.
Step 2: Fold into a Smaller Square
Fold the napkin in half to form a rectangle. Fold in half again to make a smaller square. Keep the open corners at the top.
Step 3: Make the First Triangle
With the open corners facing away from you, take only the top layer of the nearest open corner and fold it diagonally to the opposite corner, forming a triangle.
Step 4: Flip and Shape the Base
Flip the napkin over, keeping the triangle intact. Fold the bottom-left corner to the bottom-right corner, creating a diamond shape.
Step 5: Form the Peak
Fold the bottom point of the diamond upward, aligning its tip with the top edge of the previous folds.
Step 6: Secure and Stand
Fold the napkin in half lengthwise, tucking the loose ends underneath. Stand it upright on the table.
Tip
Lightly starch the napkin before ironing to help it hold its shape.
