DIY Toilet Paper Roll Napkin Rings: Easy Upcycled Table Decor
Turn toilet paper rolls and wrapping paper into napkin rings for budget-friendly table settings.
What You'll Need
- Empty toilet paper rolls (or paper towel rolls cut down)
- Decorative wrapping paper, fabric scraps, or old book pages
- Craft glue (PVA or Mod Podge) or hot glue gun with sticks
- Optional: ribbons, beads, buttons, small flowers, glitter, paint, clear sealant spray
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Paintbrush or foam brush
- Craft knife (optional)
Use empty toilet paper rolls and decorative paper to make napkin rings. This project is low-cost and eco-friendly.
Prepare the Rolls
Mark even lines on the toilet paper roll with a ruler and pencil. Cut along the lines to create rings about 1.5 inches wide. For sturdier rings, use paper towel rolls cut to size.
Cut Decorative Strips
Measure the circumference of the ring. Cut strips of wrapping paper, fabric, or book pages to that length plus 0.5 inch overlap. Width should match the ring height.
Apply Glue and Wrap
Apply an even coat of craft glue to the outside of the ring using a brush. Press the decorative strip onto the ring, smoothing out air bubbles. For hot glue, work in small sections.
Secure and Finish
Press firmly around the entire surface to secure the paper. Fold the overlap edge under or trim it. Let dry completely. Optionally add embellishments like beads or ribbon, and seal with clear spray.
Sturdier Rings
Use paper towel rolls for thicker cardboard. Stack and glue two rings together for extra strength.
Smooth Glue Application
Use a brush for even glue coats to avoid lumps. With hot glue, work quickly and in small sections for a smooth finish.
Hot Glue Caution
Hot glue can burn skin. Keep glue gun away from children and use on a heat-safe surface.
