How to Master the Pocket Napkin Fold: 3 Diagonal Bands Tutorial
Create a pocket napkin fold with 3 diagonal bands. Step-by-step instructions for a square cloth napkin.
What You'll Need
- Square cloth napkin, 20x20 inches (50x50 cm)
This fold creates a pocket with three diagonal bands on the front. Use a 20x20 inch (50x50 cm) square cloth napkin. Ironing first gives sharper creases.
Step 1: Prepare the Napkin
Lay the napkin flat on a smooth surface. If desired, iron to remove wrinkles.
Step 2: Fold Horizontally
Bring the bottom edge up to meet the top edge. Fold in half horizontally. Align edges precisely.
Step 3: Fold Vertically
With the napkin still folded, bring the right edge over to the left edge. Fold in half vertically. You now have a small square with open corners at the top-right.
Step 4: First Diagonal Band
Orient the napkin so the open corners face away from you (top-right). Take only the top layer and fold it diagonally downward, from the top-right corner toward the bottom-left. Stop about 1 inch (2.5 cm) from the bottom edge.
Step 5: Second Diagonal Band
Take the next layer (second from top) and fold it diagonally downward, parallel to the first band. Keep the spacing even.
Step 6: Third Diagonal Band
Repeat with the third layer, folding parallel to the previous bands. Stop about 0.5 to 1 inch (1.3 to 2.5 cm) from the bottom edge. Tuck the final flap into the pocket created by the first fold.
Tip
For even spacing between bands, use a ruler or measure with your fingers before each fold.
