How to Fold a Napkin into a Shirt
Fold a square napkin into a shirt shape for table settings.
What You'll Need
- Square napkin (cloth preferred)
- Flat, clean surface
- Iron and ironing board (optional)
Use a square cloth napkin to fold a miniature shirt. Works for Father's Day or dinner parties.
Step 1: Prepare the Napkin
Lay the napkin flat on a clean surface. Ensure it is perfectly square. For crisper folds, iron it first.
Step 2: Fold into a Narrow Rectangle
Fold the napkin in half lengthwise. Press the crease. Fold in half lengthwise again to make a narrow strip.
Step 3: Create the Collar
Place the strip horizontally. At one end, fold the top two corners diagonally toward the center to form a point.
Step 4: Form the Sleeves
Flip the napkin over. Fold the outer long edges toward the center, overlapping slightly. This creates the sleeves.
Step 5: Secure the Body
Flip back to the front. Fold the bottom edge up to meet the collar. Tuck the bottom under the collar to hold the shape.
Tip
Use a starched cloth napkin for better shape retention. Paper napkins work but are less crisp.
Warning
Avoid over-folding or creasing too hard on delicate fabrics to prevent damage.
