Easy DIY Paper Dreidel: A Fun Hanukkah Craft for All Ages
Fold and cut a square piece of paper to create a paper dreidel. Great for Hanukkah decorations, cards, or kids' activities.
What You'll Need
- Square paper (origami, construction, or scrapbook)
- Markers, colored pencils, glitter, or stickers (for decorating)
- Scissors

Make a paper dreidel from a square sheet. Use origami, construction, or scrapbook paper. Decorate with markers, stickers, or glitter.
Step 1: Prepare a Square
If your paper is not square, fold one corner diagonally to align the edges, then cut off the excess rectangle. Unfold to get a square.
Step 2: Make Diagonal Creases
Fold the square in half diagonally corner to corner, crease firmly, and unfold. Repeat with the other two corners to create an X-shaped crease.
Step 3: Make Vertical and Horizontal Creases
Fold the square in half vertically, crease, and unfold. Then fold in half horizontally, crease, and unfold. You now have a grid of creases intersecting at the center.
Step 4: Fold Corners to Center
Fold each of the four corners inward so their tips meet the center point where all creases intersect. Press firmly to create a smaller square with triangular flaps.
Step 5: Cut the Dreidel Shape
Keeping the paper folded into the smaller square, use scissors to cut along the folded edges to create the dreidel silhouette. Unfold carefully to reveal the shape.
Step 6: Decorate
Use markers, stickers, or glitter to add Hebrew letters (נ, ג, ה, ש) or festive designs. Let dry before displaying.
Tip
Use thin paper for easier cutting and crisper folds. For kids, pre-cut squares and supervise scissor use.
