Easy Toilet Paper Roll Spider Craft for Halloween
Cut a spider from one flattened toilet paper roll and fold the legs into shape. You need scissors, a pencil and, for the detailed version, a toothpick.
This spider is cut from one flattened toilet paper roll. You draw the outline, cut it out and fold the legs into shape. For the detailed version, a toothpick and a pencil help shape the legs and body. No glue or paint is used.
Step 1: What you need
You need one toilet paper roll, scissors and a pencil. A toothpick is optional. The photo shows the finished spider.
Step 2: Draw the head and body
Flatten the toilet paper roll. Along the folded edge, draw a small half oval just above the middle for the head and a larger half oval below it for the body. Keep each one a little narrower than 1/4 of the roll's width.
Step 3: Draw the pincers
Above the head, draw a small double oval for the pincers.
Step 4: Draw the first legs
Draw a double line from the top of the head to the upper corner of the roll. Draw another from the top of the body to the lower corner. These are legs.
Step 5: Draw the other legs and cut out
Draw 2 more double lines out from the head, with even gaps between the legs. Cut out the spider along the outlines.
Step 6: Separate the legs
Cut along the fold to separate the legs.
Step 7: Separate the pincers
Cut the pincers apart at an angle.
Step 8: Fold the legs up
Press the legs upward so they fold along the edges of the ovals.
Step 9: Fold the legs on the back
Turn the spider over. Fold each leg up about 1/3 of the way out from the body.
Step 10: Make the feet
Fold the end of each leg down to make a foot.
Step 11: Finish the simple spider
Turn the spider back over and sharpen the folds if needed. This is the simple version.
Step 12: Shape the legs with a toothpick
For a more detailed spider, color it before you cut it out in step 5. Use dry colors only: wet cardboard goes soft and won't hold its shape. Turn the spider over, lay a toothpick along each leg and push the sides of the leg up against it.
Step 13: Pinch the legs
Pinch each leg to fold it in half lengthwise.
Step 14: Shape the pincers
Pinch the pincers and press them upward.
Step 15: Curve the body
Press the end of the body lightly against a pencil to give it a slight downward curve.
Step 16: Done
The detailed spider is finished.
