How to make paper mache vases from newspaper and plastic containers

Don't throw out those plastic containers. This guide will show you how to make paper mache vases from them. Green crafts for children and adults.

Difficulty level: Beginners

Instructions:

Materials:
Plastic containers
Newspaper
White glue
Optional: sandpaper

Wash and dry the plastic containers.

Experiment with different combinations until you find ones that you like.

Glue the areas that are touching.
and wait until the glue has dried.

If you have bowl shapes with thin lips that you do not like, now is the time to cut them off.

Rip the paper into strips. Do not use scissors
.
Make a mixture of 2 parts white glue to 1 part water in a shallow container.

Place a few strips into the liguid to drench them.
Scrape off the excess on the edge or with your fingers.

Place the strip over the top edge and down the side of the plastic container.

Continue adding strips, over lapping and as neatly as possible. Smooth them out with your finger as you go along.

Cover the whole vase with a layer of strips and smooth them out with your finger,

Put at least another 2 layers of strips on the vase.
Use your finger to smooth them out.

.Let the paper dry completely.
It may take over night or even a few days to dry completely.

Sand the vase smooth with sandpaper.

You can decorate the vase with a coat of acrylic, poster paint and even oil paint .

You can glue strings, beads and other objects to the vase and give it a coat of varnish, if you like.
