How to Make a Woven Paper Strips Decoration
Weave 12 paper strips into a decoration that looks like a flower or snowflake.
What You'll Need
- 12 paper strips, 0.5–1 inch wide, 8.5–11 inches long
- Scissors or paper cutter
- Ruler (optional)
Weave 12 paper strips into a flat, symmetric decoration. The final shape can resemble a flower or snowflake depending on how you arrange the loops.
Prepare the Strips
Cut 12 identical strips from your paper. Use scissors or a paper cutter. Keep widths and lengths uniform for even weaving.
Form the Base
Lay 3 strips parallel on a flat surface. Weave 3 more strips perpendicular through them to create a 3x3 square grid. Tighten the weave so the center is snug.
Weave the First Layer
You now have 12 free ends extending from the square. Take each end and fold it back toward the center, tucking it under the adjacent strip to form a loop. Repeat for all 12 ends, working around the center.
Weave the Second Layer
For each loop, find the two unattached strips at its base. Weave one of them over and under the existing loops to create a second layer of points. Repeat until all remaining strips are woven in.
Shape and Secure
Gently pull and adjust the woven strips to open the design. Tuck any loose ends under nearby weaves. If needed, add a small dot of glue to hold the final shape.
Tip
Use contrasting paper colors to make the weave pattern more visible.
