How to Fold a Diamond Origami Envelope
Fold a paper envelope with a diamond-shaped flap using one square sheet.
What You'll Need
- Square paper, 8.5x8.5 inches or 12x12 inches
- Ruler (optional, for clean edges)
Use one square sheet of paper to make an envelope with a decorative diamond flap. Works for letters or gift cards.
Step 1: Prepare the Square
If your paper is not square, measure and cut it to a perfect square. Place it flat with the colored side down.
Step 2: Diagonal Creases
Fold the bottom corner to the top corner, crease, and unfold. Then fold the left corner to the right corner, crease, and unfold. You now have an X-shaped crease.
Step 3: Fold Corners to Center
Bring the bottom corner to the center point where the diagonal creases intersect. Crease well. Repeat with the top corner, folding it to the center.
Step 4: Create the Bottom Flap
Take the point of the bottom folded corner and fold it back down so its tip touches the bottom edge of the paper. This creates a small rectangular flap.
Step 5: Fold the Sides In
Fold the left and right edges inward toward the center vertical crease. They should overlap slightly. Press flat.
Step 6: Form the Diamond Flap
Lift the top layer of the bottom flap and fold it upward along the existing crease. Tuck the corners under the side flaps to lock the envelope. The top point forms the diamond flap.
Tip
Use a bone folder or the back of a spoon to make sharp creases for a cleaner fold.
Warning
If the paper is thick, the envelope may be bulky. Use thin paper for easier folding.
