How to make a drawing or composition grid.

Steps

   Materials: Cardboard Paper Ruler Pencil Utility knife Scissors String

   Step 2

   Skip steps 3 and 4 if your are making a rectangular shaped picture.

   To make a square from a rectangle bring the bottom right edge up to align with the left side of the paper. Make sure the fold starts exactly at the left corner.

   Cut along the top edge of the folded layer. Unfold the triangle for the square paper.

   Center the paper on top of the cardboard. Trace the outline with a pencil.

   Remove the paper and cut out along the outline you just made with the utility knife.

   Cut a frame of at lease 1 inch around the opening you just made.

   Use your ruler to find and mark the middle of each of the 4 sides. Make a halfway mark between the middle and the end of the opening to divide each side into 1/4 's.

   Make a tiny slit on the outside of the fame where the marks are.

    Stick a string in a slit on one side and bring it horizontally across and into the slit on the opposite side. Repeat for all the side slits.

    Repeat for the vertically slits and your composition grid is ready.
