How to make an Hawaiian Lei for your costume

Steps

   Materials: White printer paper – 10 or more Scissors Paper glue Pen or pencil Straws String and needle Watercolors and paintbrush

   Fold the paper in half lengthwise

   Fold it again in half lengthwise

   Bring the sides together to fold in half widthwise

   Bring the sides together to fold in half widthwise again

   Draw 2 lines from the corners as shown Draw a circle in the center

   Draw the outlines of petals

   Cut out the 4 triangles between the petals Repeat steps 2 to 8 on 8 more papers. You may need more depending on the length of the lei you want

   Unfold the paper Paint halfway down the petals as shown in the picture Let the paint dry. Flip over the paper to the back side and paint it the same way While the paint is drying do the other sheets of paper

    When the paint has dried refold the paper twice lengthwise again and cut a rounded edge on each petal. You will be doing 4 at a time if you do it folded this way.

    Put a little glue in the center and place another cutout on top but rotated a little.

    Fold the top 2 layers of petals upwards. Flip over the flower and fold the bottom layer upwards to make it folded in the opposite direction. This is a finished flower. Now make lots more

    Cut the straws into ¾ inch lengths

    Measure the length of string you need around your neck and add enough to easily knot it. Thread the string on a needle. Pull one straw piece through the needle and then the flower by pushing the the needle through the center of the flower.

    Continue stringing a straw and then a flower until you have the length you want.

    End with a flower and tie the 2 strings together with a double or triple knot.
