DIY: How to Make Large Lotus Flowers from Toilet Paper Rolls
Turn empty toilet paper rolls into large decorative lotus flowers. Simple recycled craft with optional coloring.
What You'll Need
- Empty toilet paper rolls (6–8 per flower)
- Craft glue or hot glue gun with glue sticks
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Optional: paint, markers, or decorative paper
- Scissors
Use cardboard tubes to make large lotus flowers. Each flower needs 6–8 rolls. You can color or decorate the finished flower.
Cut Rings
Flatten each toilet paper roll. Use a ruler and pencil to mark lines 1 inch (2.5 cm) apart along the length. Cut along the marks to create cardboard rings.
Cutting Tip
Use sharp scissors for clean cuts. Adult supervision is recommended if children are helping.
Shape Petals
Press each ring into an almond or teardrop shape. Pinch one end to form a point. This creates the petal shape.
Make Inner Base
Take two shaped petals. Apply glue to their pointed tips and press them together to form a 'V' shape. Let the glue dry.
Glue Options
Hot glue dries fast but is hot. Craft glue works but takes longer to dry.
Add Middle Layers
Glue additional petals around the 'V' base, overlapping them slightly. Continue adding petals in layers, working outward, until the flower reaches the desired size.
Finish and Decorate
Let all glue dry completely. Optionally paint or decorate the flower. Use as a centerpiece or wall decoration.
Safety
If using a hot glue gun, avoid touching the nozzle or hot glue. Keep away from children.
