DIY Marble Solitaire Game: Cardboard & Paper Plate Build
Build a homemade marble solitaire game from cardboard and a paper plate. Simple craft for kids and families.
What You'll Need
- Cardboard piece, 12x12 inches or larger
- Paper plate, standard dinner size
- 32 marbles, standard size
- Hot glue gun with glue sticks or strong craft glue
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Craft knife or sturdy scissors
- Compass (optional)
Make a classic marble solitaire game using cardboard and a paper plate. You'll cut a square base, mark 33 holes on the plate, and glue it to the base. Then play by jumping marbles to remove them.
Cut the Cardboard Base
Measure and mark a 12x12 inch square on the cardboard. Cut it out with scissors or a craft knife. For a circular base, use a compass to draw a circle of the same diameter as the plate, then cut.
Mark 33 Positions on the Plate
Place the paper plate upside down. Use a pencil to mark 33 evenly spaced points in a cross-shaped pattern: 5 rows of 5, but remove the four corners. Lightly draw a grid to help spacing.
Cut the Marble Pockets
At each marked point, cut a small hole just large enough for a marble to sit in but not fall through. Use a craft knife or scissors. Adult supervision is required.
Attach the Plate to the Base
Apply hot glue or strong craft glue around the rim of the plate. Press the plate onto the cardboard base, centered. Let it dry completely.
Set Up and Play
Place marbles in all holes except the center. To play, jump a marble over an adjacent marble into an empty hole, removing the jumped marble. Continue until only one marble remains. Aim to finish with the last marble in the center.
Decorating
Paint or color the cardboard base before attaching the plate for a custom look. Let paint dry fully before assembly.

Adult supervision is required when using craft knives, scissors, or hot glue guns. Always cut away from your body and work in a well-ventilated area.
